Some people would rather
Accuse witches than actuallly
Love others as they love themselves;
Evil loves embodying “good” people;
Massacre is a “good” person’s playground.
POET’S NOTE:
An acrostic Scorched Sunday poem. Part of my Scorched Strays collection. Halloween Edition.
Inspired by the Salem witch trials of 1692, this poem confronts the religious fanaticism, hypocrisy, and self-righteousness that led to the persecution and execution of innocent people. It challenges those who claim moral superiority while condemning others, exposing the cruelty that can flourish when religious certainty replaces compassion and love. Though rooted in Salem’s history, its indictment extends well beyond 1692.
