Annabel Lee is an original tone poem for chamber ensemble composed by Tristan Robert Lange and performed by Appalachian Virtual Ensemble.
Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s celebrated poem, the composition brings together piano, violin, cello, and pipe organ in an instrumental exploration of love, longing, loss, and remembrance.
Beginning with a solitary piano, the work gradually expands as the strings enter, introducing new textures and expressive contrasts. The later entrance of the pipe organ adds another dimension to the ensemble before the composition settles into its quiet, sustained conclusion.
Rather than setting Poe’s words to music, Annabel Lee offers an instrumental interpretation of the poem’s emotional world, inviting listeners to experience its haunting atmosphere through sound.
