A gritty urban mural at sunset shows glowing golden eyes above silhouettes of a dreadlocked rock band performing on a weathered brick wall, with candles, puddles, power lines, and city buildings around it. The bottom includes the Tittu mark, TRL monogram, and tristanrobertlange.com.

Payable on death,
Only innocence will
Die conscience free.

Religiopiod junkies
Overtly criticize the
Christ they proclaim.
Keep white Jesus—bitches!—
Southtown’s got Jah’s eyes.

POET’S NOTE:
An acrostic Scorched Sunday poem. Part of my Scorched Strays collection.

This poem draws inspiration from a band whose faith has never fit neatly inside the safer corners of Christian music. It considers what happens when the name of Christ is claimed by the very idols his life exposes, and when redemption keeps speaking from places polite religion once tried to ignore.
