car rolls up
in sporting fashion—
on a side street,
shades, smiles flashin’,

not the autobahn—
both bon jovial.

captain kidd
transporting
the boss,

sans the king of swing,
hitman, or mr. poodle,

to a new jersey fling—
it’s a jersey thing—

living on speed,
no time for a prayer
but both socially aware,

not far
from their car;

ain’t no hearse,
jet black, sleek, fast—
time to rehearse—
meant to

outlast.

one square mile
down the shore—
straight past
asbury’s stone pony
right next door—
welcomes two gods
of rock and roll.

kick it off—
time to soar—

gonna rock like it’s
nineteen seventy-four.

but here’s the thing
i’ve discovered,

better now
before it gets smothered:

it’s also my time—
Jersey bound—

heading home
ready to sound,
engine revved,
wires wound!

i’ve arrived—
time to rock—
you’ll hear the howl
of this jersey hound.

POET’S NOTE:
Part of The Art of Being collection. Inspired by the real-life event of Jon Bon Jovi driving Bruce Springsteen to E Street Band rehearsals in Ocean Grove on Saturday, March 21, 2026, this poem intertwines that moment with my own homecoming to the Garden State. Great to be back!
