A cinematic dark image of a massive cracked Liberty Bell hanging in shadow with distant fireworks behind it. A lone figure stands beneath the bell facing away from the viewer. The mood is solemn and reflective with faint red, white, and blue reflections across the metal surface. Gothic Americana atmosphere.

i wanted to sing
in the state of
let freedom ring,
but that sadly

was not a thing,

for my song—
different—brings
a love for all
of humanity

of thee i sing.
but i came late
to understanding
that in this state

it is not freedom
that is free,
but the freedom
to conform
you demand
of me.

now

you’ve learned that
will never, ever be.

POET’S NOTE:
Part of the Truth, Applied collection. For the two-hundred fiftieth anniversary celebration of the “freest” nation on earth…not to be confused with Freedom 250. 🤷‍♂️
