Goosefire Fortitude

A hyper-realistic gothic image of a skeletal figure draped in ornate, decayed religious robes, lit by warm candlelight. The skull is partially shadowed beneath a hood, with a bony hand resting forward. Embroidered crosses adorn the fabric. The mood is solemn and unsettling, evoking corrupted authority and lifeless ritual.

Jesus alone is
Authority to me;
Never relics in robes.

He—Christ—authorizes me.
Uniformity is idolatry.
Save me?—I’d rather burn.

POET’S NOTE:
An acrostic Scorched Sunday poem. Part of my Scorched Strays collection. This piece confronts false authority, imposed uniformity, and the cost of refusing to submit—where allegiance is claimed, not assigned, and conviction is proven in fire.
