Meet My Rocks

Whimsical watercolor illustration of friendly character-like stones arranged on a wooden desk in warm sunlight near a window with plants. Dragon-shaped stones, a smiling stone, a frog-like stone, a snail, a mushroom, and foundation stones beneath the desk evoke the playful tone of the poem “Meet My Rocks.”

You should know this
About me—
I talk to rocks,
You see?

Probably not—
It’s okay,
You’ll see.

Before you know it,
You’ll talk to rocks too—
Just wait and see, it’s true.

Let’s introduce us.
This we shall do.

There’s Gentle, Draco
And, of course, Gorgeous,
Dragons of devilish desire.

Ooh—how I admire their fire.

Have you met chief?
Quiet and sturdy is she.

There’s Mr. Toad and Sir Snail,
Sturdy, silent supports
For Toadstool. There’s the three.

Of course, duh!
Meet Apep,
She’s beneath my feet—
Scary at first—
A total pleasure to meet.

A huge laugh
For the Stooges,
Three,
You know their names—
Say them quietly,
Their lawyers got no grace, dig?

Finally,
Meet the Foundations,
Five,
Upon whom—
Now you’ve got it—
I’ve come to thrive.

And I will talk to these,
My rocks,
Every day that I am alive.
