Exhibit: (A)pathy

Outside a sports bar at dusk, fans cheer inside while, on the sidewalk outside, a makeshift memorial of flowers and candles rests beneath a taped photograph on a brick wall. Graffiti above the photo reads “ICE WAS HERE.” Branding text “tittu” and “tristanrobertlange.com” appear at the bottom, with a small crest in the corner.

Crosses worn like idols,
fleuRs de la mort, planted
in large, Open, bags—
our national Sin sanctified
as they move in to Scare
the citizens to Ensure
massive Xenophobia
and Angry uprisings.
Menacing mangoes
feel Inherently powerful
as they, Nazi-like, become.
let us finally Ask ourelves,
do we not see it? To not see
is inexcusable Ignorance,
and past Obliviousness
will Never be a sufficient
Safeguard from nemesis.
