The Rev

A broken clergy collar sits half-buried in blackened ash and charred wood. Small orange embers glow around it, with thin smoke rising through the darkness. The scene looks burnt, bleak, and symbolic of ruined identity.

Born to raise hell—
Religion released him—
Ignorance integrates
Against his image—
Never touching his truth.

Hating on Satan
Unveiled in the System,
God is just an excuse
Hiding all the lies.

Wisdom shows itself
Anathema to ignorance.
Religio-political ruination
Now in overdrive,
Enigmatic evil hates
Righteous responders.

Poet’s Note:
An acrostic Scorched Sunday poem. Part of my Scorched Strays series, some may find this one a surprising “stray.” He isn’t hated so much as misclaimed—praised, blamed, defended, rejected, twisted into every shape but his own. Yet his unadulterated words still remain, burning through the distortions.
