The Burning Lye

A burned, vintage lye bottle stands upright on a blackened, corroded surface. The top of the bottle is open and on fire, with a thin flame and faint smoke rising into a dark, brown-black background. The scene is stark, gritty, and atmospheric.

Dejected and rejected—
Isolation was icy despair—
Sent somewhere silently,
Put away post-performance.
Ostensibly of value—vaporized—
Silently sent into stillness
After ashen awareness
Blistered when mixed with water,
Lye makes the burn
Eat away at the flesh.

Today, years later,
Everything—
Everyone is the same…
Nope. I’m not disposable.
