Love Costs

A dimly lit church altar at dawn with a white cloth, golden chalice, and communion plate illuminated by a shaft of warm light through stained glass haze. On the stone step below rests a single red carnation. The scene is solemn and cinematic.

Official, yet never officious
Sanctity begins with dignity—
Corruption can’t buy Communion,
And holiness is measured by
Righteousness over religiosity.

Righteousness is justice transferred
Over to those who’ve been othered.
Measured by their faithfulness to love,
Every disciple follows the Teacher,
Regardless of the personal cost.
Only love will win out in the end.

Poet’s Note:
An acrostic Scorched Sunday poem. Part of my Scorched Strays series. This poem reflects on costly discipleship—where Communion cannot be bought, dignity defines sanctity, and love outlasts violence.
